Rod Setups
Ultralight
The Celilo is a budget-friendly and high-performing ultralight rod. The 5-foot length makes it easy to throw in a backpack for some back country trips. I've put plenty of trout on this rod and it hasn't let me down. To be totally honest, this rod is actually frankensteined together. I had previously owned a 6-foot version but while backpacking the very first time I took it out, I dumbly snapped the lower half into two pieces. Then I purchased the 5-foot version and after a few years using that rod, the tip of the top half snapped off. So, I took the TOP HALF from the 6-foot rod and joined it with the BOTTOM HALF of the 5-foot rod. So far, so good.
The Ceymar C-10 is the smallest reel in the Ceymar lineup and it matches perfectly with a short ultralight rod. Smooth drag, compact size, and built well enough that you're not replacing it after one season. For under $40 it's hard to beat.
For me, line is line and I'll get the cheapest one with decent reviews. This line happens to be what I bought for this reel way back when I first got into fishing and I honestly have nothing to complain about.
Light
Same Celilo quality, just longer. The extra two feet of rod gives you more casting distance and more leverage when a bigger fish decides to show up. Still affordable, still reliable, and the 7-foot length is versatile enough to fish comfortably from shore or from a boat.
The ODT-4000A is a bigger reel for bigger situations. More line capacity, more drag power, and the olive drab colorway looks great if that matters to you. It's still a Ceymar at its core: smooth, durable, and priced well under what you'd expect for the build quality.
Braid at 6 lb gives you a thinner line diameter than equivalent mono, which means longer casts and more sensitivity. You feel everything. The tradeoff is visibility in clear water — tie on a fluoro leader if the fish are being picky. Moss green helps it disappear around structure and vegetation.
